Autism

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has exploded as a Pediatric neurodevelopmental disorder over the past 30 years. It is currently diagnosed in 1 out of 66 children in Canada.

Children with Autism show delays in speech and communication, difficulty with social skills, and often have restricted or repetitive behaviours, interests or activities. These attributes are observed before the age of three (3), and often around 18 months. Mainstream healthcare still considers Autism to be a psychological disorder, or a genetic disorder where the genes haven’t been identified yet.

Dr. Clack has been treating children with ASD’s for over 16 years. He was introduced to naturopathic biomedical theories about Autism through families that had consulted DAN! (Defeat Autism Now!) physicians in the U.S. Dr. Clack completed DAN! Training in 2005 and has continued to upgrade his training since then, through the Medical Academy of Pediatric Special Needs (MAPS).

Biomedical approaches to treating health problems infer that there is a “factor” that can be found through biomedical testing, and a treatment for the factor can be recommended. Most biomedical practitioners working with families with Autistic children know they have multiple health problems (“co-morbidities”) and metabolic problems. Dr. Clack recommends testing that can find errors in methylation and mitochondrial function, food sensitivities, allergies, infections, toxin exposures (eg. heavy metals, plasticizers, pesticides, etc), and nutrient insufficiencies.

Treating the factors generally help patients feel better and overcome their co-morbidities; improvements in Autism traits often occur too. Treatment protocols for children with ASD can be long and complex. Dr. Clack uses his vast experience to simplify the protocols for maximum effectiveness.
