Naturopathic Medicine, as well as other Complementary Health Practices, believes that each person needs to be treated as an individual when addressing their health concerns. Two people may present with the same disease or condition, but they have different histories. Stress may be a key problem for one person, while exposure to heavy metals or toxins is the focus for another. These differences must be respected, and taken into account in their treatment. It’s a simple way of acknowledging that medicine is only beginning to learn about the integrated nature of physical, mental and spiritual factors in each person’s health – yet Complementary or Holistic practitioners have practised this way for hundreds and thousands of years.
